Fruit Fact: My Jewel, a variety of apples
A firm banana flavored apple similar to Winter Banana but without all the downsides; it keeps well and doesn't go mealy, and the banana flavor is much more pronounced than in Winter banana.

|Origin:||Chance seedling discovered in Watsonville, CA in the 1940's. Used to be grown on many acres, but now only 4 acres of commercial crops remain, grown by Privedelli orchards in Watsonville.|

Description: Yellow skinned fruit with skin that tends to be on the waxy side, flat shaped, often irregular, ribbed in the calyx basin.
Flavor and tasting notes: Strongly aromatic apple with pronounced banana flavors that intensify in storage. The flesh is cream colored and very dense when fresh off the tree, but softens up off the tree. Very fragrant fruit with strong banana-vanilla aroma.
Great Central California apple with low chill requirements. It blooms mid season along with many other species of apples.

Vigorous grower, precocious, requires thinning in order to get full sized fruit.
Harvest, storage and consumption:
Mid September, 2 weeks after cox orange pippin. This apple is a winner in storage, keeping excellent flavor and texture into early March. The banana flavor intensifies, as do the aromatics.
